A surface anchor has features that a standard piercing through tissue does not. Get a specific aftercare plan from the professional who performed the procedure, and discuss any changes in person.
Agree on a follow-up plan
Ask about cleaning, whether and how the area needs protection, restrictions on your usual activities and the date of a follow-up appointment. Do not choose a dressing or decide how long to wear it yourself based on a general article.
Keep the professional’s contact details and your written instructions. If the recommendations need to change, discuss this with them first.
Reduce unnecessary friction
Check whether seams, belts, straps or jewellery come into contact with the area. Avoid pressure and snagging while changing clothes and sleeping. Do not feel around the base or test how firmly it is anchored.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before any necessary touching.
- Do not rotate or unscrew the decorative top yourself.
- Do not try to pull, press or force the jewellery back into position.
If its appearance changes
A change in position, visibly thinning skin, discomfort or repeated snagging need a professional assessment. Removing it yourself can damage the tissue. Discuss a plan for changing the decorative top and any handling of the base at your check-up.
When to see a doctor
Increasing pain, spreading redness, significant swelling, pus or a fever need medical assessment. Do not substitute messages with the studio for this assessment or start treating a possible infection yourself.
This is a general editorial draft, not an individual aftercare plan. A studio specialist should approve it before final publication. Seek medical advice if you have concerning symptoms.
