Nostril and septum piercings have different placements, so aftercare and follow-up schedules may differ. Start with the personal instructions you received after the procedure and discuss any questions with your piercer.
A gentle daily routine
Try not to touch the jewellery during the day. Wash your hands before any necessary touching. Do not rotate or move the jewellery to check it: extra movement can irritate the tissue.
Wash your face gently, avoiding friction around the piercing. Products and methods for cleaning the piercing itself should follow your individual instructions; do not add new products based on casual advice.
Take care with everyday items
Pay attention to towels, clothing with narrow necklines and facial products. It is easy to catch the jewellery with an unnoticed movement.
- Do not apply makeup or skincare products directly to a fresh piercing.
- Use tissues carefully without catching the jewellery.
- Do not try to hide or flip fresh jewellery without discussing it with your piercer.
Checking the fit and changing jewellery
If the jewellery starts pressing into the area, catching on things or changing position, book a check-up. Discuss the size, shape and timing of a change with a professional. The absence of discomfort alone does not show that a piercing is ready for a jewellery change.
Do not delay seeking help
Seek medical help for increasing pain, significant swelling, spreading redness, pus or a fever. Your piercer can assess how the jewellery fits, but this does not replace diagnosis and treatment by a doctor.
